چکیده

The transition from the ordered commensurate phase to the incommensurate gaussian phase of the antiferroelectric asymmetric six-vertex model is investigated by keeping the temperature constant below the roughening point and varying the external fields (h, v). In the (h, v) plane, the phase boundary is approached along straight lines δv = kδh, where (δh, δv) measures the displacement from the phase boundary. It is found that the free energy singularity displays the exponent 3/2 typical of the Pokrovski-Talapov transition δf ∼ const(δh)3/2 for any direction other than the tangential one. In the latter case δf shows a discontinuity in the third derivative. PACS numbers: 05.50, 64.60C, 64.70R

The free energy singularity of the asymmetric six - vertex model and the excitations of the asymmetric XXZ chain

We consider the asymmetric six-vertex model, widely used to describe the equilibrium shape of crystals, and the relevant asymmetric X X Z chain. By means of the Bethe-ansatz solution we determine the free energy singularity, as function of the external field, at two special points on the phase boundary. We confirm the exponent 3 (checked experimentally), as the antiferroelectric ordered phase i...

The free energy singularity of the asymmetric 6–vertex model and the excitations of the asymmetric XXZ chain

We consider the asymmetric six–vertex model, i.e. the symmetric six–vertex model in an external field with both horizontal and vertical components, and the relevant asymmetric XXZ chain. The model is widely used to describe the equilibrium shape of a crystal. By means of the Bethe Ansatz solution we determine the exact free energy singularity, as function of both components of the field, at two...

Expansions about Free-Fermion Models

A simple technique for expanding the free energy of general six-vertex models about free-fermion points is introduced. This technique is used to verify a Coulomb gas prediction about the behavior of the leading singularity in the free energy of the staggered F-model at zero staggered field. 1 Definition of the staggered F-model The staggered F-model is a special case of the six-vertex model. Th...

2 00 3 Introduction to solvable lattice models in statistical and mathematical physics ∗

Some features of integrable lattice models are reviewed for the case of the six-vertex model. By the Bethe ansatz method we derive the free energy of the six-vertex model. Then, from the expression of the free energy we show analytically the critical singularity near the phase transition in the anti-ferroelectric regime, where the essential singularity similar to the Kosterlitz-Thouless transit...

A novel exponent in the Equilibrium Shape of Crystals

A new exponent characterizing the rounding of crystal facets is found by mapping a crystal surface onto the asymmetric six–vertex model (i.e. with external fields h and v) and using the Bethe Ansatz to obtain appropriate expansions of the free energy close to criticality. Leading order exponents in δh, δv are determined along the whole phase boundary and in an arbitrary direction. A possible ex...
